Current Classes


BACK TO BASICS
You can take each class individually for $10, or take the entire series for $50.  You don't have to take these classes in order - come to the class that offers the help you need when you need it.  Each class is about an hour long, but you must sign up in advance!

  • CUTTING BASICS: Learn how to accurately rotary cut, what all the those lines are your ruler are for.  Try before your buy by using our rotary cutter and rulers. We will also talk about fabric quality and straight of grain.
    • Wednesday, November 19,  2:00- 4:30.
    • Monday, TBA,  5:00 - 6:00.
    • Saturday, TBA, 2:00- 3:00.
  • PIECING BASICS: The importance of a 1/4" seam and how to find it.  Press for success! Setting a quilt or block on point.
    • Monday, October 6,  5:00 - 6:00.
    • Learn to do Prairie Points in our border class - like Paula Ross!Saturday, TBA, 2:00- 4:30.
    • Wednesday, October 15,  2:00- 4:30.
  • BORDER BASICS: Borders can make or break a quilt.  Do you want a straight border, a pieced border, a scalloped border, a mitered border, flanges, piping? Once you decide, we will show you how to add it and keep your quilt flat.
    • Saturday, TBA, 10:30- 12:30
    • Wednesday, October 22,  2:00- 4:30
    • Monday, September 8,  5:00 - 6:00.
  • FINISHING YOUR QUILT: Decide to tie, hand quilt or machine quilt your quilt.  We will give you an overview of the three methods and help you with it in class, but this is not an in-depth methodology class.

  • BINDING BASICS: Learn how to make and apply both straight of grain and bias binding with crisp, clean corners.

  • LABELS AND HANGING SLEEVES

In this all day class you will learn how to piece, cut apart and repiece the strips that make the Bargello quilt. This is a fun technique and we will have a great time.  You'll be amazed by the results!!! $35.  Patsy is going to teach this class in January.  It uses 28 different fabrics - yes, we will have a kit for you.

Beginner Boot Camp
This class for the confident beginner will take you through selecting fabrics, proper rotary cutting methods, making a perfect 1/4" seam, creating your own design (including setting a quilt on point), paper piecing, appliqué, finishing the quilt (including binding). $45 plus book.  You must have access to a working sewing machine to do the homework. Do you own Electric Quilt but haven’t quite got around to working with it? Considering EQ6 for your Christmas Wish List? This class will familiarize you with the basics. Bring your laptop with EQ installed or use one of ours. Special one-day discount on software. $35  (Kris's note: if these times don't work for you, call and we can schedule a different date and/or time.)

Friday Freebie
Every Friday afternoon from October 10 to December 12 (except Nov 28) we will be offering FREE classes on quick gifts.  Topics will include tote bags, fabric bowls, table runners, wallets, aprons, placemats, casserole carriers, scrap saks, couch caddies, wine bags and more.  The classes are FREE but patterns and/or supplies must be purchased at our shop.  Don't worry, we will make liberal use of the share bucket:-))

Ladies Night.  Join us as we sit and chat while working on our favorite project. Bring your knitting, your embroidery, your quilting or whatever you are working on for a night of friendship and advice from the group. Come anytime between 5:30 and 8:30 on Monday nights. No charge.


Learn Foundation Paper Piecing.

This is a beginner level class that teaches the fundamentals of foundation paper piecing. This technique allows you to piece small blocks and wall hangings with increased accuracy.  Fabric can be 4 or 5 coordinating fats or scraps. 

For this class you will need a rotary cutter, a small cutting mat if you have one, scissors, sewing machine (unless you are using one of the shops), pins with small or flat heads, a quarter inch ruler, ruler for squaring, a postcard, (3 X 5 index card or template plastic about that size.)

We will provide the patterns and fabric (and cookies of course). If you wish to bring your own fabric, one fat quarter will be plenty for a main color and 3 to 5 coordinating strips about 2 inches wide.  $15 plus pattern

Join Tamara as she shows you how to make this easy tote from the Let's Do Lunch book. This tote uses 1/2 yard black, 1 yard stripe, 1 yard cherries, 1/4 yard yellow dot and 3/4 yard lightweight interfacing. $15 plus book

Machine Quilting Class

Sassy Bag PurseOur own Sassy Sherry will teach you how to make a Sassy Bag!  This small three pocket purse is ideal for travel and can be made with only three fat quarters. It is ideal for vacations or traveling light.  It's nicer than a fanny pack, less bulky than a traditional purse, and will lie securely next to your body.  The 2 inside pockets are big enough for a cell phone, check book and glasses.  There is also one pocket on the back. Finished size approx: 8" x 9". You supply the sewing machine, we supply everything else!  $25 includes pattern, fabric and all supplies.
