E-mail Club August 11, 2008
Hello and welcome back! This is the Quiltbus News and Views list, an occasional newsletter telling you about the events at the Quiltbug Shop or at the Hickory Hills Quiltbus website.
We have had a very wet summer so far! We have had to close twice due to flooding in the area. My neighbor is playing it safe - he has started building an ark. Speaking of which (I am digressing a little bit here), did you hear about the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008? It allows first-time home buyers to take a $7,500 tax credit from the purchase of a home. A little too late for me, but good for my kids! There is more information at www.federalhousingtaxcredit.com.
Back at the quilt shop, we have lots of new fabric coming in. We do *try* to reorder current lines when they sell out. If you have been looking for a specific fabric in the Cat's Meow, 12 Days of Christmas, Shivers or Splash line, check the website. Could be that it is back in stock!
New fabric: we have the full line of Up on the Rooftops by P&B, which includes a free pattern. Our backorder of the Fruit Ladies came in, too. Aren't they wonderful? Click on the picture thumbnails below to see these fabrics up close. To order, click on the hyperlinked name under the picture.
Sorry, sold out. But we are ordering more! |

A little birdie tells me that a Very Hungry Caterpillar is headed our way, too.
We are redesigning our website to provide more information to help you make an your purchase. One question that we are often asked is about secure payments, so I thought I would address that in this newsletter.
Any site that starts with https:// is being hosted on a secure server. Information is encrypted as it arrived, and stored securely. Typically you only find shopping carts that handle credit card information on secure servers. Although it is still possible to hack into those servers, it is incredibly difficult. It is far easier for a thief just to figure out the algorithm that credit card companies use, make up a series of numbers, and test them until one works. Computers make this kind of work very fast and easy. That's why many stores, including ours, ask for the 3 digit CVV code on the back of your credit card. It serves as a check digit to prevent guessing a valid credit card number.
Our shopping cart has a secure certificate through Verisign and is monitored by McAfee to ensure your safety. Once your order arrives here in the shop, we do not keep a copy of it on a computer accessible via the Internet for an additional layer of safety. We do want you to feel comfortable ordering with us, which is why we have also signed up with Paypal Express and Google Checkout. These companies allow us to get paid without you ever telling us your credit card number.
On to more fun stuff.
If you are in the Esperance area, help us clean out the shop to get ready for this falls fabric. Clip out and use the coupon below. And don't forget about our $1 Labor Day sale August 30th!

New classes this month:
We have two rooms (up to four people each) left at our fall "No Whining" retreat on Otsego lake in Cooperstown! If you are a leaf peeper, check out the brochure at http://quiltbug.com/PDF/brochure.pdf Because we are in a hotel, there is no extra charge for bringing family members who stay in the same room.
I will also be teaching a mystery at Frost Valley this November. It's one of my usual ones, full of tips and tricks. I will *not* being doing this one online in the near future, so don't look for any clues:-))
Here are some awe inspiring quilts: http://www.gofraser.com/photos.htm Look closely to see how they are made.
On the opposite end of the scale is this quilt: http://utahquiltappraiser.blogspot.com/ although you have to give the maker credit for using what she had available.
Once again, I will leave you with a smile: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCYaw5tGYAs
Enjoy!
